Masja de Haas, MD PhD, is Laboratory Director of the Department of Immunohematology Diagnostic Services of Sanquin Blood Supply, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She has over 20 years of experience in transfusion medicine. Since 2015, she is professor in Immunohematology appointed at the University of Leiden, in the Netherlands. Her research interests are within the field of auto-and alloimmune mediated blood cell destruction and comprise evaluation of the clinical relevance of current and new immunohematology laboratory tests and to design optimal diagnostic and treatment strategies, such as transfusion policies, for these disorders. She co-authored over 140 peer-reviewed scientific publications. For her work in blood group genotyping, she received the Jean Julliard Prize of the ISBT in 2006. She is a member of the ISBT Working Party for Red Cell Immunogenetics and Blood Group Terminology and the ISBT Working Party: Rare donors.
The Dept. of Immunohematology Diagnostic Services is an international reference centre for red cell, platelet and granulocyte serology. The services include complex antibody identification, antigen typing including molecular typing, before blood transfusion and in pregnancy (e.g. non-invasive fetal typing). The Dept. provides the testing for the nationwide fetal Rh typing program to target RhIg.Back to speakers
